Learning new stuff - Uusi aluevaltaus

I have a new hobby. I've been wandering in nearby forests looking for mushrooms that can be used as dye. So far I've experimented with two batches of wool and am completely thrilled about mushroom dyeing thing!
I'm a total beginner in this so I've just been reading some books about the subject + the excellent Riihivilla Blog for hints & advise. And now I'm just giving it a go and trying things out in practice. Oh what Fun!!

My first experiment was with rotten Suillus bovinus (Boletales).  There was basically just slimy goo left of those mushrooms as I had picked them up some time before and let them stand in a plastic bag. Yummy... not.

Then I sieved the resulting slimy liquid twice. See the murky brown colour in the photo below? this is when I started having doubts...

This is my dye pot / gas bottle rig. It proved to be very handy.
Tällaisella systeemillä keittelin värilientä - nestekaasupoltin, tuulensuojarengas ja ikean 10l kattila .

Undyed yarns pre-dyebath, Zitron Gambio (alpaca mix) in natural, Estonian wool in off white, Gjestal Raggegarn thick sockyarn. (wool mix)

Värjäämättömät, kastellut langat odottamassa väripataan pääsyä.

Dyeing process: Used Alum and cream of tartar as mordants. Yarns were in the dye bath (a bit over 80degrees)  for and hour , then I turned the gas off and left the yarns cool in the dye bath.

Värjäys: käytin alunaa ja viininkiveä pureutusaineina suoraan väriliemeen. Nostatin lämpötilan reiluun 80asteeseen ja annoin olla tunnin. Sitten kaasu pois ja jätin langat liemeen jäähtymään.

This is what the yarns looked like when lifted from dye pot.
Langat heti väripadasta nostamisen jälkeen.
I rinsed yarns and some dye came off but not too much. Only needed two rinses to get clear water on the third rinse round. Surprisingly good I think.
I was utterly thrilled with having succeeded dyeing yarn with boletes. Such a wonderful process!

And this is how they turned out. Pale(ish) golden colour. Quite pretty actually.
Tällaisia niistä tuli: vaaleahkoja kellertäviä/rusehtavia. Sellainen väri mitä näkee niitetyissä pelloissa - tumma oljenkeltainen olisi varmaan lähin väri, jos kuvailla pitäisi...
